Smarter parasite control.
Made simple.
Parachex™ is a parasite risk assessment and faecal screening service designed by vets, for vets, and delivered in collaboration with IDEXX. A short pre-consult questionnaire and an at-home faecal test give your team the full picture before the pet walks in.

The next step in parasite control

The veterinary profession is moving away from blanket treatment towards targeted, evidence-led prescribing. The challenge is finding a practical way to deliver that level of personalised care within the time and workflow constraints of modern veterinary practice.
Parachex™ makes that possible. Owners complete a short digital questionnaire about their pet's lifestyle and collect a faecal sample from them at home for IDEXX Faecal Dx® testing. Parachex™ then brings the lab result and the pet's risk profile together, and matches them to the treatment schedules your clinical team has agreed, using products from your own pharmacy. The final decision always rests with the vet.
- Minutes back in every consult - a 5-10 minute parasite chat becomes 1-2 minutes
- Done before they walk in - owners complete the pre-consult questionnaire in just 2-3 minutes
- Your protocols, your pharmacy - recommendations built around your stewardship goals and in-clinic stock
- Your name on every report - reports and recommendations are fully clinic branded
- Slots right in - fits neatly into health plan renewals and annual vaccinations
- Keeps clients close - personalised, vet-led care through your health plans builds compliance and keeps clients from drifting to online retailers
What the IDEXX Faecal Dx® panel screens for
- Roundworm
- Hookworm
- Whipworm
- Cystoisospora
- Taeniid tapeworms
- Flea tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum)
Tapeworm has historically been hard to detect through routine faecal screening (microscopy). Antigen testing finds infections up to 30 days earlier and up to 5 times more often than flotation.¹
Fully independent. Every recommendation is 100% objective and evidence-led.
Why risk-based prescribing, and why now
There is growing veterinary and public awareness of the environmental impact of parasiticides entering waterways and soil. Driven by high chemical potency, widespread preventative use and environmental persistence, active ingredients such as fipronil and imidacloprid are accumulating in aquatic and land environments at concentrations high enough to disrupt delicate food webs.
Following the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee inquiry into pet parasite medications, vet teams are being asked to justify not only why a pet should be treated, but also when treatment may not be needed.

"A practice must be able to demonstrate that when using ectoparasiticides, it does so responsibly, and is accountable for the choices made in such use."
"Veterinary professionals should avoid blanket treatment and instead risk assess use of parasiticides for individual animals."
A thorough diagnostic examination at least once a year, with regular faecal testing recognised as an alternative to repeated routine worming where appropriate.
Five simple steps to
smarter parasite control
Pre-consultation set-up
Ahead of the annual booster, the owner gets a link to the Parachex™ questionnaire and a faecal collection kit for their pet arrives in the post.
Sample collection
The pet owner completes the online Parachex™ risk assessment and scans the sample tube's barcode to link it directly to their pet. They then collect a small faecal sample on a walk or from the litter tray, popping it into any Royal Mail postbox using the prepaid packaging.
Report generation
Lab results and personalised risk profiles are returned to the practice in advance, delivering tailored treatment recommendations that align with your practice's protocols and stewardship goals before the pet enters the consulting room.
In consultation
The clinician reviews the report and can adjust any recommendation with full clinical discretion. Treatment options are matched to products available from the practice's own pharmacy, so the right protection can be started without delay. Prescriptions are generated in line with RCVS and VMD guidelines.
Sustained Engagement & Education
Extend your care beyond the consulting room. Automated seasonal prompts from parasite spikes to peak tick threats, deliver bite-sized educational content that keeps owners informed and drives long-term compliance.
Using Parachex™ has made it easy to adopt a truly responsible risk-based approach to parasite control. The platform is user-friendly, fully co-brandable and has been straightforward to add into our existing workflow.
Bishopton Veterinary Group
Confidence in every recommendation
With Parachex™ your parasite control protocols are transparent, evidence-based and regulator-ready, without adding to your team's workload.
We work with your practice
Parachex™ is not a generic parasite protocol imposed on the practice. It is built around your clinical team, your stewardship goals and your pharmacy.
- 1
Define the clinical framework
We work collaboratively with your practice to map custom treatment guidelines for five core parasites, configured at clinical-board level to reflect your stewardship objectives.
- 2
Build it into the platform
Your protocols, products and branding are set up in Parachex™, so every recommendation reflects how your practice works.
- 3
Apply it consistently, case by case
Every vet in the practice works from the same clinical framework, so advice is consistent whoever the pet sees. Each vet keeps full clinical judgement, and the owner stays part of every treatment decision.
- 4
Review together every year
We review the set-up with you every year, so it keeps pace with your practice and with changing parasite risks.

Parachex™ in practice
At Bishopton Veterinary Group, Parachex™ is part of every vaccination consultation, with annual faecal testing for health plan members.

We are already seeing a gradual reduction in overall parasiticide use while maintaining appropriate protection for pets.
Partner, Bishopton Veterinary Group
Protecting pets. Protecting the planet.
Flea, tick, and worm treatments are essential for keeping our pets, and our families, healthy and happy. But with over 21 million cats and dogs in the UK, parasite treatments add up fast.
These products can wash off into our soil and waterways, impacting local wildlife and delicate ecosystems. That's why modern pet care is shifting toward targeted protection: giving your pet the exact treatment they need, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all routine
Every pet is unique! Their daily habits, outdoor adventures, and home environment all shape their individual risk. By taking two minutes to complete the Parachex™ assessment, you'll help your vet build a personalised parasite plan tailored specifically to your pet's lifestyle.
- Keep pets safe, with protection based on individual risk
- Limit unnecessary treatment, reducing the impact on the environment
- Help slow resistance, so treatments stay effective for the future
